Trip Itinerary

DAY #1 - Nairobi, Kenya - House of Waine
Upon your arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport your guests will be met by an andBeyond representative who will transfer them into the vibrant Nairobi.

Kenya’s capital is one of the largest and most influential cities in Africa, an important commercial and financial hub. It is the port of entry for most travellers to Kenya and offers bustling markets, interesting history and numerous attractions. Named after a Maasai watering hole, “enkare nyarobi”, which means “place of cool waters”, Nairobi is known for its leafy streets and parks. The skyline, with towering skyscrapers and imposing architecture also draws one’s attention soon after arriving in the city. Not-to-be-missed are visits to the city’s beautiful Uhuru Park and an informative excursion to the Karen Blixen Museum.

Spend one night at House of Waine in Nairobi, the stay includes bed and breakfast.

House of Waine

Nairobi, Kenya

Immersed in the leafy surrounds of Kenya’s beautiful Karen Forest is the elegant House of Waine – an upmarket retreat, which offers guests intimacy and superb accommodation. Guests can unwind in one of 11 individually decorated suites —each with a spacious, marble ensuite bathroom, satellite television and a complimentary personal non-alcoholic mini-bar.

WAHT WE LOVE ABOUT HOUSE OF WAINE

· Indulge in a sumptuous breakfast of utterly delectable homemade pastries and juicy jams that are accompanied by freshly prepared hot dishes – the perfect way to start your day.

· Take a trip to nearby Kazuri Beads, visit the workshop and view the intricate handmade ceramic jewellery and tableware on display.

· Journey to the Karen Blixen Museum, a short drive from the House Waine.
DAY #2 - Laikipia, Kenya - Borana Lodge
After a delicious breakfast you will be transferred to Wilson Airport for your scheduled light aircraft flight to Lewa Airstrip. Based on your selection of lodge you will be met and transferred to either Lewa Wildlife Conservancy or Borana Wildlife Conservancy.

Lying on the edge of the Northern Frontier, the Laikipia Plateau stretches from the slopes of snow-capped Mt Kenya to the rim of the Great Rift Valley. Laikipia boasts one of the largest elephant populations in East Africa and is one of the last strongholds of the endangered black rhino. Despite its scattered mosaic of farms and cattle ranches, it is essentially still a wilderness, a wildlife refuge supporting huge numbers of game. Two rivers, the Ewaso Ng’iro and Ewasa Narok, run through the area, attracting a rich variety of wildlife. Vast open plains in the shadow of Mount Kenya create a tranquil and secluded setting. A wild and romantic haven, Laikipia shelters not only the Big Five but a variety of rare and endangered species, including African wild dog, Grevy’s zebra and the semi-aquatic sitatunga antelope.

One of East Africa’s original family-owned conservancies, Borana is located within the vast area of the Ewaso ecosystem on the Laikipia Plateau: snow-tipped peaks and the glaciers of Mount Kenya to the south; a panorama of mountains and desert to the north, Borana provides an idyllic setting for any African experience. Home to the Dyer family for three generations, the ranch – 17 miles north of the equator and 6,000 feet above sea level – is free from the malarial mosquito and the nights are cool.

Revel in your 2 night stay at Borana in a Double Room with ensuite bathroom. Your stay includes accommodation, all meals, sundowner excursions, soft drinks, beers, house wines, selected house spirits, shared game drives (day & night), guided bush walks, return airstrip transfers, horse riding, mountain biking and laundry.

Borana Lodge

Laikipia, Kenya

The magnificent Borana Lodge is bordered by the snow-tipped peaks and glaciers of Mt Kenya to the south, and the panoramic mountains and desert to the north. Beautiful cedar-and-stone thatched cottages include ensuite bathrooms, open fireplaces and private verandas boasting exceptional views of the plains below.

The lodge prides itself on its superb, wholesome fare — the chefs insist on growing their own vegetables, baking homemade breads and making fresh pasta. A private orchard supplies juicy fruits for the delicious freshly-squeezed juices served daily to guests. The pool veranda is a favourite place for a long, leisurely lunch, whilst the infinity pool offers an inviting escape from the heat. A spacious sitting room provides guests with an idyllic spot to relax — comfortable sofas and armchairs are dotted around a huge open fireplace. Adventures include morning and evening game drives, walking safaris and trout fishing.

WHAT WE LOVE ABOUT BORANA LODGE

· Head to the safari shop for a spot of retail therapy — return home with African sculptures and paintings, beautiful beadwork, handcrafted jewellery and exquisite trinkets.

· Explore your pristine surroundings with the local guides, who are incredibly knowledgeable about the area and its resident wildlife.

· You will be enchanted by the breathtaking vistas — enjoy sweeping views of the occasional snow and permanent small glaciers on Mt Kenya, which makes a stunning contrast to the huge panorama of mountains and desert to the North

Delight in your 3 night stay at Sanctuary Olonana in a Tent with ensuite bathroom. Your stay includes all meals, game drives, nature walk, laundry, all beverages (alcoholic or non-alcoholic with the exception of champagne & premium brands) and return airstrip transfers from Kichwa Tembo Airstrip

Olonana Camp is situated in the heart of Kenya’s Big Game country — rich with hippo, elephant, buffalo, hyena, giraffe, armies of gazelle and famed prides of lion. Spacious tents boast ensuite bathrooms, four-poster beds and private verandas overlooking the majestic Mara River.

Olonana’s superbly well-trained chefs create sumptuous meals to be savoured in the large dining room, or al fresco — on the sweeping terrace perched over the river. A sparkling swimming pool offers a cool refuge from the scorching heat. Guests in need of quiet time can select a book from the camp’s well-stocked library and sink into the one of the plush couches dotted around the comfortable sitting room. A mini-spa offers a wonderful selection of soothing treatments ranging from traditional African massage to French marine therapies.

WHAT WE LOVE ABOUT SANCTUARY OLANANA CAMP

· Game viewing is never dull in the Mara, and your patience is often rewarded with unique sightings — a pride of lion stalking their prey, a solitary leopard retrieving its kill from the high branches of an acacia tree, male impala sparring to attract females into their harem or even a herd of elephant protecting their young from opportunistic predators.
