Trip Itinerary

DAY #1 - Arusha, Tanzania Mount Meru Lodge
Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport you will be met by Abercrombie and Kent Guardian Angel and transfer to your hotel located approximately 1 hour drive from the airport.

Situated at the foothills of Mount Meru in the bustling, leafy little city of Arusha in northern Tanzania, the Mount Meru Hotel lies in fifteen acres of lush, landscaped gardens with views of the fertile slopes of the beautiful mountain that gives the hotel its name.

Each of the rooms enjoys views of either Mount Meru, the mountain soaring over Arusha or the established gardens, with their jacaranda and Nandi flame trees. There is an established golf course adjacent to the hotel, a large pool within its grounds and several restaurants and bars to choose from.
DAY #2 - Tarangire National Park, Tanzania Tarangire Simba Lodge
Your Driver/Guide will meet you in Arusha and transfer you to Tarangire National Park. The park is approximately 2-3 hours’ drive from Arusha with a picnic lunch.

Tarangire National Park is one of the finest parks in Tanzania. Centered on the Tarangire River, this park has expansive views with wide panoramas of wooded savannah stretching in every direction. The most outstanding feature is the Tarangire River, which is permanent, and the only reliable dry-season source of water available to wildlife in a vast stretch of Tanzania’s Rift Valley, attracting tremendous concentrations of animals.

Tarangire National Park is a gem on the northern safari circuit. Teeming with wildlife, especially in the dry season, this area is a safari-goers dream. Located near the new Sangaiwe Gate of Tarangire National Park, Tarangire Simba Lodge is situated in a wildlife-rich area with unhampered views to beautiful Lake Burunge, bordered by the park and a Wildlife Management Area. The setting is stunning; with a giant old Baobab tree anchoring one corner and a permeating feeling of real Africa.

Resident wildlife includes lion, zebra, bushbuck, impala, porcupine, monkeys, warthog, mongoose and more. Elephant, buffalo, ostrich and giraffe frequently pass through while the bird life is prolific and vibrant.

Guests are able to enter, exit and re-enter from the Sangaiwe gate of Tarangire National Park with ease. Accommodation at Tarangire Simba Lodge is in classic canvas safari tents situated permanently under thatch. The spacious tents are constructed on platforms complete with wooden floors, en-suite dressing room, toilet and shower. Additionally, there is an outdoor shower and each tent has a private veranda with views to the bush and Lake Burunge. Furnishings are handcrafted from African hardwood complimented with tastefully selected fabrics. Both twin and queen tents are available; electricity and hot water are solar powered. Full amenities are provided.
DAY #3 - Tarangire National Park, Tanzania Tarangire Simba Lodge
As the sun rises above the ancient baobab trees, venture out into Tarangire in search of Lion and cheetah whilst large herds of elephant roam the park en route to their favorite swamp. You may like to spend the full day game viewing in the park with a picnic lunch to be enjoyed at a dramatic look out or you may prefer to incorporate some leisure time at your lodge between morning and afternoon game drives.
DAY #4 - Tarangire National Park, Tanzania Tarangire Simba Lodge
Enjoy breakfast at the camp, and then then safari sets off to Lake Manyara National Park approximately 2 hours.

However, you approach Lake Manyara National Park, your first view is spectacular. Lake Manyara National Park has a wide variety of habitats attracting a host of different animals: monkeys leap between the trees of the ground water forest, on the slope of the escarpment elephants stand in the shade of the baobab. In the pools along the lakeshore, hippos wallow and in the acacia woodland lions rest in the trees. The birdlife is fascinating, with pelicans, storks, geese, herons and cormorants sharing the water with migrant flamingoes that turn the crystalline edges of the lake a bright pink.

Later drive to Ngorongoro Highlands approximately 1-hour, remaining time at leisure buy the pool overlooking the Ngorongoro forest.

A small and exclusive lodge facing the Oldeani Volcano, Ngorongoro farmhouse is only 5 kilometers from the Ngorongoro Loduare gate. The lodge was built to offer safari goers an original experience reminiscent of the atmosphere of the old days.

Ngorongoro Farm House is offering 50 room cottages with ample space inside, built on the style of an old colonial farm and rustically decorated with local materials.

Meals are normally served in the main building and sometimes a buffet lunch is set-up around the pool. Guests have an ample choice of food prepared with local produce.
DAY #5 - Tarangire National Park, Tanzania Tarangire Simba Lodge
Your game drive today will be like no other as you visit one of the most dramatic safari destinations in Africa, the Ngorongoro Crater. Descend to the crater floor in search of the Big Five with the forest-covered crater walls surrounding you, creating stunning backdrops for all of your wildlife photographs. Travel through the Lerai Forest looking for leopard and onto the plains where the wildebeest and zebra graze whilst cheetah and lion lay and watch. Elephants pass your vehicle whilst further afield rhino wander and hippos hide in the pools. A picnic lunch is provided so you can maximize your day in the crater and visit to Maasai Village.
DAY #6 - Tarangire National Park, Tanzania Tarangire Simba Lodge
Enjoy breakfast at the camp, then Leave your lodge and drive along the crater rim before descending the outer slopes of the Ngorongoro Crater and onto the vast plains of the Serengeti. Arrive at your lodge approx. 4-5 hours later.

Kubu Kubu Tented Camp, is an exciting new addition to Tanganyika Wilderness Camps’ collection of luxury safari accommodation and will be opening in June 2016. It has a modern African appearance, creating a fresh, sleek, yet comfortable ambiance. Situated in the stunning central part of the Serengeti, the camp is strategically positioned in one of the main migration areas so that guests can enjoy this awesome natural wonder from the comfort of their tents.

There are 25 spacious en-suite tents which offer absolute comfort, exclusivity and a genuine African bush experience. In the central restaurant guests can enjoy exceptional food and wines, and the cozy lounge area has been creatively designed to give an atmosphere of intimacy and exclusivity. There is also a swimming pool in which to relax after a long game drive. Internet access is available in the camp with Wi-Fi in the central area. Accommodation is on a full board basis.

Kubu Kubu Tented Camp is perfectly positioned to be within easy reach of different parts of the park and an array of areas of interest and diverse habitats and wildlife, including the famous Maasai Kopjes, Olduvai Gorge Museum, the southern plains, the Seronera valley and the Grumeti River.

You drive west and north to one of several special campsites in the region. Here you will be camping in a special campsite.
DAY #7 - Serengeti National Park, Tanzania Kubu Kubu Tented Camp
One of the world’s last great wildlife refuges, the Serengeti, stretches between the Ngorongoro Highlands and Lake Victoria. The name comes from the Maasai word siringet, meaning “endless plains”. The Serengeti’s 14,763 square kilometers contains about three million large animals, many of them taking part in seasonal migrations, unparalleled in nature.Every year, triggered by the rains, 1.3 million wildebeest, 200,000 zebra and 300,000 Thomson’s gazelle gather to undertake the long trek to new grazing lands. The migration of the herbivores roughly defines the boundaries of Serengeti National Park, which is the central zone of the Serengeti ecosystem, an area that also takes in Kenya’s Maasai Mara National Reserve, the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and the Maswa Game Reserve in the west.
DAY #8 - Serengeti National Park, Tanzania Kubu Kubu Tented Camp
Spend your days exploring the extensive plains of the Serengeti in search of the ‘Big 5’. If you would like to maximize your time game viewing you can take a picnic lunch out into the park and enjoy a meal out in the vast savannah before returning to your lodge later in the day.

Diamonds Mapenzi Beach Club on the north eastern coastline of Zanzibar sits on the glorious Kiwengwa Beach, one of the island’s loveliest: the sand is the color of caster sugar and the ocean the aqua of sea glass.

Reminiscent of a traditional Swahili village, the rooms – all furnished with hardwood carved by local craftsmen – are as individual cottages with steeply thatched roofs built within acres of tropic-exotic gardens which lead to the palm-lined beach.

There are three restaurants here and two bars. The island’s capital, the vibrant, historical Stone Town, is a short taxi ride away and there are tons of options to enjoy the sea from above – take a windsurfing course – or below, armed with a mask and snorkel.

Reviews

A&K along with Nora Winsberg did an amazing job putting together our itinerary for Rwanda/Kenya/Tanzania. We were greeted at every stop by A&K representatives who were very very helpful negotiating the multiple airports. The A&K guides in each country were wonderful! They were very knowledgeable, helpful, and personable which made the trip that much more amazing! Thank you Nora and A&K!
