Description
Today your skipper will take you for a private motorboat tour to Korcula Island. Enjoy the cruise through Elaphiti Islands archipelago with breathtaking views. Upon arrival to Korcula, you will meet your local guide for a private walking tour of this glorious town. Did you know that Korcula is known as the hometown of Marco Polo – the first world traveler? This is where his silk road began. But the visitors often joke that it can’t be true – after all, if the famous explorer has indeed been born here, he would have never left! With more than 2000 years of history, the former Greek colony of the “Black Korcula” (Korkyra Melaina) resisted the sieges of centuries and remained a living monument that is now yours to discover… Wander through the narrow cobblestone streets to the Cathedral of St. Marko, an architectural masterpiece in Gothic and Renaissance style. Its construction is an admirable testimony of the artistry of the local stonemasons and the excellent adamant stone of the island. Right across from the Cathedral, you will find the charming Museum of Icons with the unique collection of Byzantine Icons and ceremonial pieces. The exhibits were primarily collected by 17th and 18th century Korcula sailors on their journeys around the world. Your stroll will finally take you to Marko Polo’s childhood home – a modest mediaeval house where this great Venetian merchant, writer and traveler was allegedly born. Your tour will end in a superb seaside restaurant of Lesic Dimitri Palace hotel. Here you will relax in a true island state of mind and enjoy an exquisite food & wine pairing. The Chef and the Sommelier will take you for a journey through finest local bites and wines of this divine island. In the afternoon your skipper will take you back to your hotel.
