DAY #1 - Luangwa, Zambia - Chinzombo Camp
Ker & Downey’s Zambia family safari begins in one of the greatest wildlife sanctuaries in the world, South Luangwa National Park. Deep in the heart of the park is the beautiful riverside family villa of Chinzombo Camp, a place where the wildlife is abundant and viewed year-round from the private deck and plunge pool. Modern architecture meets unwieldy nature in all of Chinzombo Camp’s six luxury villas, where steel-frame structures and expansive open plans are paired with recycled composite timber for the flooring, raw linen décor, and beautiful reed-work.
Stop #2 - Luangwa, Zambia - Chinzombo Camp
In addition to the game drives and walking safaris on offer, Chinzombo also has an extensive menu of child-friendly activities, from bush ranger courses and Zambian language lessons to traditional meal demonstrations and visits to local villages for games of football with the school children.

The African bush holds so many treasures for youngsters, and Chinzombo’s private guides will gladly ensure that the length and content of every safari outing ideally suits each family. Stop #5 - Lower Zambezi National Park, Zambia Chongwe River House
Your family safari transfers to the lesser-known wilderness reservoir of Lower Zambezi National Park. Chongwe River House—an exclusive-use private home—is the perfect safari base for any family. Reminiscent of an open-air Flintstones home, Chongwe pairs flexible schedules and the utmost privacy with an array of dedicated guides, vehicles, boats, canoes, scouts, and chefs.
Stop #6 - Lower Zambezi National Park, Zambia Chongwe River House
Chongwe River House is a haven of space with plenty of indoor and outdoor areas for lounging and relaxing. Swimming in the large outdoor pool or simply resting in the sitting room brings with it unbelievable animal encounters as the wildlife congregates along the Chongwe River. The Chongwe region is especially famous for its huge herds of elephants, who are often in full view feeding, drinking, and playing in the river.
Stop #7 - Lower Zambezi National Park, Zambia Chongwe River House
The surrounding wilderness of the Lower Zambezi is teeming with big game and cultural heritage, but many are simply content sitting on the deck and soaking in the quiet and iconic beauty. Canoeing on the rivers, fishing with the guides, and visits to nearby villages are all possible in addition to the game drives and walking excursions available.

We had an excellent experience with Olivia as our travel agent. She took the time to talk to us before booking to get an idea of our wants and needs. We did several countries and numerous cities on our trip; Olivia got it exactly right at every location! Every hotel, excursion and travel experience was exactly to our liking with above and beyond service and accommodations. We also ran into numerous barriers/changes with COVID19 while on our trip. Olivia kept an eye on restrictions for each location we were in, adjusted our trip/hotel/flights as needed in a way that felt effortless to us, but I'm sure was so much work on her end. We would book with her again and highly recommend her as personable, knowledgeable and hardworking.

The entire trip, once it happened (thanks to several reschedules) was very organized and thought through. When the original Galapagos operator cancelled late in the game, Ker & Downey quickly found us an alternative.

We travel a lot and have worked with a number of top tour companies like Tauck, A&K, and Vaya. We chose K&D for our custom trip to Honduras because frankly, the bigs don’t go there or many other off the beaten track places in Latin America which is such a shame. I’m glad we chose them as they are smaller, more personable and service oriented. Their pre-trip planner was one of the best - customized for our trip (the tipping section was particularly helpful). Monica, from their Guatemala office, kept in touch with us throughout from the minute we landed to boarding our flight home. She also helped us change plans from a flight to a ferry at last minute due to weather. All said I wouldn’t hesitate to use K&D again especially for our Latin American jaunts.
