Trip Itinerary

DAY #1 - Kafue, Zambia Shumba - Bush Camp
This exclusive Zambia Zimbabwe safari begins in the Kafue National Park, where a helicopter will ferry you over the grasslands to the tented comforts of Shumba Bush Camp. Just six spacious luxury tents comprise the camp, each of which boast a gracious four-poster bed as its centerpiece. En suite baths feature both an indoor or open-air shower accented by rustic bronzed fixtures that complement the calm natural palette found throughout camp.
DAY #2 - Kafue, Zambia Shumba - Bush Camp
Meaning “lion”, Shumba is aptly named after the various lion pride territories that make their home in the area. The Busanga Plains provide some of the best lion viewing in Africa and many can often be seen roaming in and around camp. In fact, the permanent water sources surrounding Shumba Bush Camp mean both plains game and predators are drawn to the area each dry season, and amazing animal encounters are just a short drive from camp, when red lechwe, zebra, buffalo, puku, wild dog, lion, cheetah, and plentiful bird life can all be spotted. Seek out the wildlife day or night and observe the scene from the raised deck at camp.
DAY #3 - Kafue, Zambia Shumba - Bush Camp
Your stay also comes complete with a relaxing swimming pool and an endless view across the wildlife-saturated wetlands of Busanga Plains. Zambia is credited as the birthplace of the walking safari, and there is no better way to get up close to nature than with the guides of Shumba. Some of the most exclusive wildlife hot air ballooning also exists here and makes for quite the unforgettable birds-eye view.
DAY #4 - Victoria Falls, Zambia - Toka Leya
Next, your Zambia Zimbabwe safari allows you to spend a full day on the Zambian side of Victoria Falls with the Zambezi River always in view. Toka Leya’s riverside confines are a refuge to hippos, elephants, and vervet monkeys, all visible from the private decks of each en suite tent. Just 12 tents exist here, connected by elevated platforms that wind through the entire facility, limiting the impact on the indigenous plant life and landscape. Four-poster beds, billowing white curtains, earthy tones, and subtle African accents define the accommodations at Toka Leya. Each raised tent also features large en-suite stone bathrooms and interior climate control for a touch of comfort and exclusivity.
DAY #5 - Victoria Falls, Zambia - Toka Leya
Perhaps the apex of any stay at Toka Leya Camp is a visit to the thundering Victoria Falls, one of the most famous World Heritage Sites. As for game viewing, guests merely have to lounge on their decks to hear the birdlife, trumpeting elephants, and yawning hippos footsteps away in the rivers. Treks to Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park will net sightings of zebra, buffalo, wildebeest, and more, while a visit to the Simonga Village will introduce guests to a project focused on education and community enhancement.
DAY #6 - Hwange National Park, Zimbabwe - Little Makalolo Camp
Today you will continue across the border into Zimbabwe for the remainder of your Zambia Zimbabwe safari adventures. Conclude your journey at Little Makalolo Camp in the verdant Hwange National Park. Each tent, including one family tent, is appointed with soft bed linens, canvas roofs, solid wood accents, and distinct bush decor. Most importantly, Little Makalolo overlooks an endlessly busy watering hole where the area’s buffalo and elephant constantly congregate for refreshing drinks and swims. The tent’s spacious outdoor showers have unobstructed private views of the waterhole, while the en-suite accommodations include a shower and flush toilet.
DAY #7 - Hwange National Park, Zimbabwe - Little Makalolo Camp
Little Makalolo’s location on the edge of the Botswana-Zimbabwe border is famous for its sublime biodiversity, and the camp does everything it can to bring the wild front and center. Day and night game drives from Little Makalolo offer ample opportunity for nature-lovers to observe and interact with the Hwange habitat. With herds of Cape buffalo and elephant numbering near 30,000 and over 100 different species of mammals, amazing game viewing is always within reach at Little Makalolo. More than 400 different bird species can be spotted from the ground. Day and night game drives offer ample opportunity for nature-lovers to observe and interact with the Hwange habitat.
DAY #8 - Hwange National Park, Zimbabwe - Little Makalolo Camp
From the log pile hide, receive a closer look at the park’s denizens including leopard, giraffe, hippo, baboon, white rhino, and several varieties of mongoose and antelope. Guests are also free to explore the camp’s main areas including the dining room, lounge, and open-air fire pit, perfect for winding down with new friends after a day of exploration – a fitting punctuation to your epic and exclusive Zambia Zimbabwe safari.
DAY #9 - Hwange National Park, Zimbabwe
Today you depart for your return journey, with VIP services at the airport with your Ker & Downey guide.

Ker and Downey is a great agency to use for international travel. We had a great experience with this company, and their connections in South America were courteous and hospitable. I would highly recommend using KD if you are traveling to a new place, and are needing assistance with transportation and tours!

For the most part, everything Ker & Downey did for our trip was outstanding! The accommodations were incredible, the people we encountered at each stop were definitely an asset to the trip, and the travel arrangements were efficient and flawless! While there were a few little things we would have tweaked, the trip ran very smoothly and we had a fantastic experience. While we asked a gazillion questions, there were a few things that we didn't know to anticipate and might have benefited from a little more upfront instruction or knowledge but the overall experience was 5 star!
